Call it whatever you want, but diversity made our military stronger.
You might have missed this story about how pictures of black service men and women have been removed from the Pentagon’s website.
The folks sitting around this table moderated by Abby Phillip come from different political backgrounds and ideologies but we still talk it through and listen to each another.
These conversations might be similar to those you’re having with friends and family across the aisle, so I want you to hear how we processed this news together.
A lot of people misunderstand why the U.S. military turned to diversity training.
We have the most ethnically diverse fighting force in world history. Getting people to work together across lines of difference is difficult. And failure to do so in a combat setting can get people killed.
So, these trainings were intended to increase unit cohesion among our warfighters. The goal was to save lives among our troops while increasing unit lethality.
It had nothing to do with a “woke agenda.”
Why do we trust the judgment of our military on every topic under the sun — except on what it takes to educate our warfighters? Makes little sense to me.
What’s your take? Let me know below.
Let’s stay together.
