As a cable news guy, I’m used to family members sending me their political takes and recommendations.
For example, my Aunt J. is ALWAYS sending me stuff.
But this time — she knocked it out of the PARK!
(I just hope she doesn’t come for my job!)
Check out below what she texted me this week after VP Kamala Harris debated a FOX News host (that was NOT an interview):
“It's your Aunt with a rant again.. Three suggestions for the Harris campaign:
1. Answer to why is Trump doing so well? Are his followers dumb? Here's what I wish Kamala had said: "Unfortunately, Trump's tactic, as with many dictators, is to discredit anyone who tries to tell the truth about him. Roger Stone coached him on how to repeat lies over and over until the people believe him. His former press secretary was told by Trump that the truth isn't important, just say anything enough and people will believe it. Trump doesn't respect his followers who believe his lies. He was glad during COVID that he didn't have to shake their hands. He's laughing all the way to the bank when they buy his golden shoes, watches, and most of all, his signed Bibles, since he's never read one, himself. Trump is like that guy who tells a woman he loves her, gets what he wants, and then laughs behind her back to his buddies about her stupidity for believing him. He's duping his followers and, unfortunately, too many people trust him when he tells them everyone else is lying about him. He tries to blame Biden, Pelosi and Schumer for going after him with frivolous lawsuits, but none of the witnesses are Democrats. Who are the witnesses testifying against him? They are all Republicans who worked with him. They know, first hand, how Trump really feels about his followers. Are these civil servants all lying? Is Trump the only one we're supposed to believe?
2. On the threat to democracy: first of all, drop the expression EXISTENTIAL THREAT TO DEMOCRACY! Most people don't know what that even means and they've tuned it out.
Instead, say:
"Respected military leaders aren't lying when they say they are very worried about Trump's relationship with Putin. If Putin gets his wish, Trump would join him and other dictators in destroying democracy everywhere. Why else would Trump want to pull out of NATO? Without the alliances of other democracies, we will help Putin reach his goal to divide and conquer the world one country at a time."
3. EXPLAIN PROJECTION:
"If you notice, Trump projects what he has done wrong, or would like to do, by blaming others. He's that sibling who runs to Mommy and accuses the other sibling of his own wrong-doing. Whatever Trump accuses his opponents of doing, most likely he's the guilty party in that story.
When he accused Kamala of paying people and bussing them to her rallies, or using AI to make her crowds look bigger, he probably does that, or would like to. That's projection.
He accuses Democrats of weaponizing the justice system with "frivolous" lawsuits against him, as if he did nothing wrong. Yet he has manipulated the justice system during his last presidency, as well as since then with lawyers and judges who aid him in delay and cover-up schemes to avoid his own accountability. Now he blatantly announces he, as President, would direct the courts and military to stop his critics, calling them traitors. Who is actually the enemy from within? That's projection.
Love and peace✌️”

See what I mean! DAYUM, Aunt J !!! You should do this for a living!
(But CNN, please don’t replace me with ANY of my family members!! Thanksgiving dinners would be … awkward.)
And if you have a family member sending YOU insightful messages about the Presidential campaign, share them with me below!
I love your Aunt almost as much as I love what you do and stand for!!
I’m a long time admirer of yours that goes back to your attempt to talk to Trump supporters in 2016. I have an idea I wish could go viral and maybe you can help me advertise it and reach republican supporters of Harris. What if the last two weekends of canvassing a Republican for Kamala got paired up with a democrat and they went out knocking on doors together to get out the vote. 1. Might help convince some undecided voters and 2. Might show that we can pave the way to work together dems and republicans in the future. I’ve talked to the head of Republicans for Kamala in PA but the idea needs to spread further to other battleground states. Can you help get news media to advertise this and maybe reach the right people to facilitate this? Wouldn’t take much more than inviting Republicans who support Harris to come to their local Harris field offices and go out canvassing. They won’t come I don’t think on their own unless they knew it was a “thing” and a last two weekend push. Just might make a difference…I just don’t know how to reach the powers that be to suggest this…I’ve been canvassing myself and registering voters in PA.
