I’d like to throw in another H to agree on. HARRIS. As in get behind Harris-Walz to bring these reasonable alliances(among everything else) to the forefront and to write the future. Thank you Van!
Talk about hitting the ground running. As a Jewish American, I love the 5 Hs and the idea of Blacks and Jews continuing to work together to make the world safer, more secure, and a better place for all.
The only problem is that the Palestinian leadership, whether it be Hamas, PLO, Palestinian Authority (whomever), they all want the destruction of Israel, a Jewish state. How can you negotiate and make peace with anyone who wants to kill you?
I don’t disagree with you Shelton, but staying with the movement let’s show our Black brothers who the groups you mention really are and move forward together.
Not true, and it just deepens the othering and sense of hopelessness. It’s the same thing i hear many Palestinians say about Israel, and in actuality Israel has now completely destroyed Gaza and killed somewhere between 5 - 14% of the Palestinians living there, mostly women and children. There are good people on both sides who want beautiful lives for their children and an end to war. There has been a comprehensive cease-fire proposal by Israeli hostage negotiator Gershon Baskin with Hamas leaders that has been sitting on BB’s desk for many weeks. Look at his CNN interview this week to learn and understand more.
I love the 5 H's for the Black and Jewish Alliance. We are definitely stronger together in the fight against racism, antisemitism, and all forms of hate. Solidarity matters more than ever during these challenging times.
I so appreciate your views on this and your reminding folks how Jewish people and Blacks have been so interconnected and co-creative and all that we have in common. I look forward to hearing more of your views. Thank you for speaking up. Your capacity for compassion, kindness, and awareness of complexity is so welcome in these times.
Thanks Van- I love listening to you on CNN and am subscribing to Substack to hear more of your thoughts. As a Jewish woman I heartily agree with Blacks and Jews working together!
This is so spot on! I’ve been agonizing over this topic for years now and of course it came to a head a year ago. I’m sure you’ve seen Sasha Baron Cohen’s speech at the King Center—I think it exemplifies so much of what you’re talking about. @van are your followers allowed to share your content on other platforms so people can be aware of the conversation or do you prefer it to be on Substack only?
Thank you so much for opening up this discussion. As a Jewish American who grew up since the age of twelve looking up to Martin Luther King Jr. as a hero and with knowledge of the positive history between blacks and Jews that you touched upon, including our joint efforts during the civil rights movement, it just pains me that we are not two groups of people completely united and strong. We should be! We should have each other’s backs in this hostile world. I have always felt that way and I’m so happy to hear you express the same! Thank you!
Thanks for this education, Van. You’ve always been a voice of reason and I’ve been following you for years, but I can no longer stomach of the toxic “bothsidesism” of CNN. Grateful to be able to follow you here.
Thank you so much. The breakdown of this relationship has been so upsetting. I am a Jewish person who was raised to fight for civil rights, and I am horrified by Netanyahu. There are many like me. You are a great human being.
I love everything about this! My non-profit, Challah and Soul is doing the work to reignite this historic alliance. Check us out, www.challahandsoul.org

Perfect message. It makes no sense for us to be enemies of each other.

I agree with all of this. As a Jewish American, I think Netanyahu and Trump are equally horrible.
